We believe in honest advice: if a garment is beyond repair, we say so. If we think we can improve it, we go for it. Garment repair is craftsmanship with a touch of fashion here, and we take the time to understand what you want.

Sometimes it is about more than a tear or a zip. The coat of a loved one who is no longer here, the suit for a wedding, the dress that has lasted for years. We repair those with respect and care, so you can wear them again.

Garment repair: what we fix

Almost every garment can be repaired. A hole in a jumper, a tear in a skirt, a seam coming apart, a button that has come off. We stitch seams closed, close holes and tears, and sew on buttons.

We do the inside too. A torn lining in a skirt or dress is replaced, a coat pocket repaired. A worn out crotch in a pair of trousers is reinforced, so the trousers last for months to come.

Not sure whether something can still be fixed? Send a photo via WhatsApp. You get an honest answer and we tell you quickly what is possible. The price you hear in the studio, always in advance.

Jeans repair

Repairing jeans is daily work for us. The crotch wears through from cycling, the knee tears, the hem frays or the zip gives up. To reinforce a worn crotch we place a sturdy fabric underneath on the inside and stitch over the worn area in a colour that blends into the denim.

A hole in the knee we close with a discreet darn or as a visible repair if you like that look. A new hem with the original stitching or a new zip in jeans is possible too.

A good pair of jeans that fits well is worth almost any repair.

Jacket and coat repair

Repairing a coat is almost always worth it compared with buying a new coat of the same quality. We close tears and holes in coats, repair broken pockets and fit new linings, in coats as well as suit jackets.

Shortening sleeves is possible too, with or without lining. Everything about zips, linings, sleeves and winter coats is on the page Jacket and coat repair. For leather, see the page Leather jacket repair.

Zip replacement

The zip is the part that breaks most often. We replace zips in trousers and jeans, in skirts and dresses and in coats. If only the slider is broken, we replace just that.

We use sturdy zips in the right length and colour, so the new zip lasts longer than the old one. All types are on the page Zipper repair and replacement.

Repairing the clothes of a loved one

Sometimes someone brings in a coat, a cardigan or a dress that belonged to a parent or partner who has passed away. Then it is not about a zip or a seam, but about something you want to keep or wear yourself. We do that with respect and without rushing.

We calmly discuss what you want: just a repair so it can be kept, or alterations so it fits you. Taking in a coat, shortening sleeves or renewing a lining can all be done without changing the character of the garment.

Take a photo before you bring it in, so you can see exactly how beautifully it comes back repaired.

Repair or buy new

Repairing is almost always a better choice than buying new, and certainly more sustainable. A seam or a knee hole extends the life of a pair of trousers by years. On a coat or jacket in good fabric, even a new lining is a sensible choice.

Still, we will tell you honestly when a repair makes no sense, for instance when the fabric has worn thin all over. That advice is free.

How it works

Send a photo of the damage via WhatsApp and we will take a look. Or drop by Wagenaarstraat 209 in Amsterdam East, a 4 minute walk from the Dapperstraat stop (tram 1 and 3, bus 37 and 41).

Most repairs are ready within 3 to 5 working days. A rush job within 48 hours is usually possible. You hear the price in the studio in advance, with no surprises. Call 020 668 5404 if you prefer to talk it through.

Frequently asked questions

What should you do if your zipper is broken?

Send a photo via WhatsApp or drop by, and we will assess the damage. Often only the slider is worn, and then the zip does not need to come out. If the whole zip needs replacing, we choose a zip that suits the style and colour, so it not only works but also looks good.

Can a tailor make trousers longer?

Often, yes. We check how much fabric there is in the hem and lengthen the trousers without it showing. With jeans, a faint line usually remains visible at the old hem. If there is not enough fabric, we find a neat solution together, such as a hem tape or a narrow border. You hear the price in advance.

Can you let out a pair of trousers?

In many cases, yes. The waistband and side seams usually have 2 to 4 centimetres of extra fabric. If there is no room left, an insert at the back can be a solution. We tell you honestly what is possible without the trousers looking different.

How much does clothing repair cost in Amsterdam?

That depends on the job. Every repair is a custom job: a seam is something different from a hole, a zip or a new lining. You always hear the price in the studio before we start, with no surprises, or you send a photo via WhatsApp and we take a look first. We tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it.

How long does a clothing repair take?

Usually 3 to 5 working days. A button or a seam is often ready sooner. If you need the garment earlier, for a wedding or a trip for example, a rush job within 48 hours is usually possible. Let us know when you drop it off and we will schedule it in.

Can you repair a hole in jeans invisibly?

Largely, yes. For a hole in the knee or crotch we place a sturdy fabric underneath on the inside and stitch the hole closed in a thread colour that blends into the denim. From a distance you hardly notice it, up close you see a fine texture. If you prefer a visible repair as a detail, that is possible too.

  • Today I went to this shop and I needed to make some adjustments for my pants. Although there were other clients as well, yet he patiently measured what was needed and it was ready very quick. The price was a little bit higher than usual tailors, but if you are looking for a good quality, this is the right place to go.
