Leather repair in Amsterdam
For designer bag repair in Amsterdam, come to Small Couture in the Dapperbuurt. A worn handle, bare corners, a broken zip or a torn lining need not be the end of a luxury bag. Tailor Pierre Hassan repairs branded bags in leather and canvas in his own workshop in Amsterdam East. English spoken.
Customers bring us bags from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Michael Kors, Longchamp, Mulberry and Furla, among others. We are not affiliated with these brands and do not carry out official brand repairs. What we do: make your bag whole and wearable again with matching leather, strong thread and the right zip. From a handle to a complete new zip.
With a luxury bag repair we tell you honestly what is possible and what is not. Send a photo of the damage via WhatsApp and we will take a look and tell you quickly what is possible. The price you hear in the workshop, always in advance. Tip: take a photo before you bring the bag in, so you can see exactly how good it looks when it comes back repaired.
The handle is the part that takes the most punishment. The leather tears at the attachment, the edge finish comes loose or the strap is so worn that you no longer trust it. We restitch loose seams, reinforce the attachment and touch up the edges.
If the handle is too far gone, we replace it with a new handle in matching leather. We choose leather that comes as close as possible to the original in colour, thickness and grain, and use the bag's existing rings and fittings. An adjustable shoulder strap is made to the length you find comfortable.
Please note: a handle with a brand logo or original hardware cannot be replicated. What we can do is make a new handle that fits neatly with the rest of the bag.
Bare corners and worn edges are the first signs of a bag that is carried a lot. On a leather bag we reinforce worn corners: we secure the leather, fill where necessary and finish the corner neatly again. That way a corner that had worn right through the leather becomes solid again.
We touch up edges with edge paint in a matching colour. That is the coating on the cut edges of handles, flaps and borders that starts to flake or go sticky after years. We carefully remove the old layer and apply new coats one by one.
New edge paint comes close to the original, but is never exactly the same factory colour. We tell you that honestly in advance, so the choice is yours.
When replacing a zip on a branded bag, we take out the old zip, find a matching zip in the same length, colour and tooth size and fit it so the stitching lines up with the original seam. If only the slider is broken, it can often be replaced on its own.
We also replace press studs and magnetic clasps. A press stud that no longer closes or a magnet that sits loose in the flap is a small job with a big effect: your bag closes again.
Hardware with a brand logo, such as an engraved zip pull or a logo clasp, we do not replace with a copy. Instead we use a neutral zip or clasp of good quality that suits the bag.
The lining of a designer bag often tears at the inside pocket or along the top edge, and on some models the lining goes sticky or starts to peel. A tear or a loose inside pocket we simply stitch up.
If the lining is damaged in several places or sticky, replacing it is the better choice. We carefully remove the old lining, make a new one to size in sturdy lining fabric or thin leather and refit the inside pockets. You choose the colour.
We cannot supply the brand's original printed lining. You get a new, clean interior that fits neatly with the outside.
Loose stitching shows first at the handle attachments, the corners and the base seam. We stitch through the existing holes, with thread in the same colour and thickness, so the repair disappears into the seam.
On coated canvas, as many big brands use, we stitch with extra care, because every new hole stays visible. Here too the rule is: follow the existing seam, never pierce anything new.
A light clean of the leather, with a mild leather cleaner and conditioner, we can include if you like. Afterwards a bag immediately feels more supple again.
Honesty in advance saves disappointment afterwards. A few things we deliberately do not do. We do not restore colour and we do not redye leather or canvas. A faded or discoloured bag keeps that colour. We do not renew coated canvas that is torn or cracked, because that cannot be done neatly. And we do not replace brand parts: hardware with a logo, engraved zip pulls, logo clasps or original printed lining.
If you want the bag repaired with fully original parts, the brand's own repair service is the right place. If you want a good bag that is whole again and lasts for years, you are in the right place with us.
You usually have your bag back within 3 to 5 working days, and a rush job within 48 hours is usually possible. You will find us at Wagenaarstraat 209 in Amsterdam East, a 4 minute walk from the Dapperstraat stop (tram 1 and 3, bus 37 and 41). Call 020 668 5404 or send a photo via WhatsApp and we will take a look.
That depends on the damage. Every bag is a custom job: repairing stitching is something different from a new handle, a zip or a complete new lining. You hear the price in the workshop before we start, with no surprises, or you send a photo of the damage via WhatsApp and we take a look first. We also tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it.
Yes. We repair a broken handle, and if it is too worn we make a new handle in matching leather. We find leather that comes as close as possible to the original in colour and grain and use the bag's existing rings. A handle with a brand logo cannot be replicated.
Usually, yes. Bare or worn through corners on a leather bag we reinforce, and we touch up the edges with edge paint. The new coating comes close to the original, but is never exactly the same factory colour. With coated canvas that is torn, we tell you honestly that it cannot be done neatly.
Yes, customers regularly bring us bags from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Michael Kors, Longchamp, Mulberry and Furla. We are not affiliated with these brands and do not carry out official brand repairs. Handles, corners, zips, lining and stitching we repair with matching materials. Brand parts such as hardware with a logo we do not replace.
Yes. A tear or a loose inside pocket we stitch up. If the lining is sticky, peeling or damaged in several places, we make a new lining to size, in a colour you choose yourself. We cannot supply the brand's original printed lining.
A bag with a broken handle or a torn lining is worth less than a bag that is whole, so a neat repair usually helps. If you ever want to sell the bag as fully original, bear in mind that we use matching, not original, parts. For a repair with original parts you can go to the brand itself. We are happy to discuss this in advance, so the choice is yours.
